Castlelis (/castlelis/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Hollowshade Dutchy, Jiea Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Castlelis is derived from the Sylvin language, as Castlelis was founded by Nrê Brailsford, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Castlelis has a yearly average temperature of 22°C (71°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 17°C (62°F). Castlelis receives an average of 140 cm/y (55 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Castlelis covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 7190 m (-19360 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Castlelis was founded durring the late 20th century in late spring of the year 1886, by Nrê Brailsford. The establishment of Castlelis was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Castlelis's construction back out of the project. Nrê Brailsford pushed on reguardles, and Castlelis was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Castlelis was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 20th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Castlelis is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Castlelis is buildings are arranged arround a single premissive packed earth mainstreet with many smaller streets branching off of it which gives the town a over all rectangular shape, albit one warped and twisted by the nature of the curves of the main road. The town resides behind a palisade wall complete with battlments, a moat, and timber gatehouses with drawbridges. The town's robustly designed timber walls have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

A look around Castlelis makes it abundantly clear the town suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had. Everyone quietly goes about their daily business not looking anyone in the eye.

Civic Infrastructure

Castlelis has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Castlelis has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Castlelis.

Castlelis has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Castlelis has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Castlelis has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Castlelis's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Castlelis has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Castlelis has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Castlelis's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its buildings being predominantly formed through the combination of basic geometric shapes. However, it shown in the detailing given to the structures such as its characteristic tall columns, intricate detail, symmetry, harmony, and balance in their designs to an astonishing degree of precision. Decorative elements for the buildings tended to be built into the structure itself, making great use of fluting, frescoes, inlays, and embossing.

Due to the actions of local Kami, summer is skipped in Castlelis.

The Howler near Castlelis are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Castlelis's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves creating small tokens to channel Summoning energies of tier 3 via oath swearing.

Economy

Points of Interest

Castlelis's roads were poorly made when first laid. Rather than repairing them correctly, a series of new roads was laid atop the old, leading to the streets of modern Castlelis suffering from potholes, cracking, and even sinkholes. The locals often repair the road by putting down wooden decking.

History

Castlelis used to be much richer, but something happened in the last (6523 % 6)+1 years to crush its source of prosperity. Different factions of the community might be trying to grasp at the remaining dregs of wealth, others might try to restart the failed industry, and some might look for a new livelihood. Any group or entity thought responsible for the collapse is likely to be treated very harshly, and some locals might find profit in shifting the blame to their enemies.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Castlelis was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Castlelis. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Castlelis lost 141 people, 180 livestock, and 89 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 169, when members of Castlelis's militia enacted an operation to capture a specific enemy general alive. The operation was complicated by enemy spies who revealed the militia's plan. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the port, which ended in defeat for Castlelis's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Castlelis's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
